CAT LA FEY

Cat La Fey is a Romanian Creative Director and Holistic Designer currently based in Mexico City. At the intersection of Cat's esoteric studies and design, the passion for creating Ritual Functional Art came to life.

After well over a decade of work in the healing arts and wellness sector, Cat recognized the need to enhance not only her practices and modalities but the spaces in which these take place. Her exploration in the growing fields of environmental and eco-psychology and her aesthetic sensitivity have led her to understand the impact that space and environment have on our individual and collective wellbeing.

Her installations invite the audience into the act of co-creating and contemplating the quality of inner and outer Sacred Spaces.

In her latest work, Altara - Bringing the Temple Home, Cat deconstructed the idea of a traditional altar, and took conceptual leaps, rearranging pieces in entirely new, and thoroughly enlightening, ways.

Cat’s approach is both philosophical and playful, inviting her audience to engage with her works actively and introspectively. Her influences include the seminal thoughts of Mircea Eliade, Joseph Campbell, and Robert L. Moore, reinterpreted through her experiences in psychoanalysis and shamanic studies.

At the core of Cat’s artistic expression is the conviction that art serves as a potent form of therapy. This belief shapes her every creation, seeking to awaken new perspectives and dormant sensations with her audience.

PERSONAL JOURNEY

“Presently in the western world there is a revolution in the understanding of Sacred Space.

The quest for regenerative liminal space usually occurs during some form of life transition – major life cycle changes or trauma. When people go through these initiation moments, that can be seen as mini-deaths, they are often searching for some kind of extraordinary space that would allow them to leave an old phase behind and experience initiation in a complete new phase.”

I dedicated a large part of my career to bridging the importance of releasing trauma through befriending death, honoring transition moments and cultivating inner sacred spaces.

Over the last few years, post pandemic holistic trends found their way into hospitality and design. The creation of space became a conscious act, honoring a newfound set of values – holistic design, sustainability, the consumption of wellness and spirituality in togetherness.

I am inspired by this movement as it brings revival in ritual leadership and the cultivation of sacred space - an extension of application of what we consider a ‘holy place’ to be, a more inviting, empowering, and permissive way to participate in the creation of our modern temples.”
